After three years in the planning and design stages the new double position thermoformed Whitehall Spirit® Tango 17™ is now in production. We had the Tango 17™ on display at the Seattle International Boat Show, from January 29 through February 6. We have now rowed the boat extensively and it does what it's supposed to and then some. It also rows and handles particularly well with only one rower aboard in the aft position. With two aboard it's a blast even in a stiff wind as shown in the pictures below. The first Tango 17™s are shipping this week! Boats are headed for Texas and Florida and Oslo Norway.
The highly successful Whitehall Spirit® Classic 17 was used as the base model for this new design. The construction is the same as the Solo 14™ featuring thermoformed co-polymer plastic for the hull and deck. A complex thermoformed inter-deck grid under the cockpit welds the hull and deck together. The inter-deck stiffens the boat substantially while also absorbing the rowing stresses on the sliding track and footstop supports.
The Tango 17™ has two fixed seats similar to the one in the Solo 14™ that stow into recessions located in the cockpit floor between the slide seat track supports. All of the Solo 14™ options are available for the Tango 17™ but prices are adjusted for items such as Sunbrella® boat covers that are larger, battens because there are four, and the stainless keelstrip which is longer. At less than half the price of a Classic Whitehall Spirit® 17 this boat enables couples, friends and families to get out rowing together. Also it’s fantastic for taking people out who are new to rowing as they can quickly learn the finer points when they are right there in the same boat.
Production will be restricted as we ramp up into the spring season so if you have been waiting for this model to appear now would be a good time to pick a delivery date and put a deposit down. The Tango 17™ sells for $9989.00 USD. The first twenty-five sold will receive two pair of Dreher™ Carbon Fiber sculls worth $936.00 USD that are included in the price. Delivery charges are not included but in most of North America our truck will continue to deliver right to your location at a fraction of the cost of a common carrier.
